The Lord Leycester Hospital (LLH), a Grade I listed medieval building in the Warwick Conservation Area, underwent significant refurbishments to celebrate its 450th anniversary. Aimed at securing long-term durability, the project addressed the internal fabric degradation, a century since its last restoration. Supported by a £1 million fundraising campaign by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), the project included upgrading services, enhancing visitor access, and boosting footfall. Key works included renewing the almshouse for veterans, and opening The Master’s House and Medieval wall to visitors, increasing public access by 23%, as well as creating new exhibition and visitor areas, including a new reception, gift shop, and café. Discussions with Historic England highlighted the need for reordering, protecting historic features, and replacing unsalvageable materials using specialist contractors. The works has allowed LLH to maintain a centuries-old tradition of hospitality, service and support its historic mission of veteran care.
