Historic Coventry Trust, Non-Conformist Chapel – Project Update!

PMP are excited to announce that we are working with Historic Coventry Trust on the transformation of the Non-Conformist Chapel (NCC)  to revitalize the building for future use.

Historic Coventry Trust, is an entrepreneurial heritage development trust and social enterprise. The Trust is aimed at restoring the city’s most iconic buildings, and finding innovative methods to protect and repurpose sites of heritage and listed interest to better connect people with history.

Branded by Historic England as one of the top five cemeteries in the country, the NCC is a Grade II* listed chapel, and is part of the larger Grade I listed park and garden of London Cemetery. Throughout its life, the chapel suffered major damages including fires and bombing raids during the second world war, and later experienced a fire in 2006 which destroyed the majority of its roof and interiors. The roof was later reconstructed; however, the side wings remained un-roofed. As a result, the NCC was placed on the UK’s national Heritage at Risk Register (HAR).

PMP are appointed Quantity Surveyor to breathe new life back into the space, working with PCPT Architects, and Contractor, Cooper-Whyte Conservation for the duration of the development. Historic Coventry Trust secured a grant from Historic England to restore the chapel, in preparation for its conversion. Key repairs will be carried out including the reinstatement of a new roof to the east and west wings, roof repairs to the rest of the building, façade repairs, and the replacement of the windows to mimic that of the existing.

Future plans will see the building transformed into space for public use, with a mezzanine floor, new toilets and kitchen facilities to serve office staff.
